Once you have all the scripts setup per room, we can create a “Vacuum Dispatch” script. This will take a parameter “room” and then call the appropriate room script to start vacuuming. You’ll notice the script compares the room variable to several different naming variations of the same room. This is so that someone using Google Assistant doesn’t have to match the script name exactly, several different phrases can map to the same room.

Zoned Cleaning with the Xiaomi Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum
It got about 7% on the low-pile carpet, making the Roborock a bad bet if you are primarily concerned with cleaning up pet hair. Accounting for the largest component of the overall score at 30%, our Navigation metric is by far the most important metric of our testing process. The Roborock completely dominated this category, earning a perfect score of 10 out of 10 for its fantastic performance. Earning one of the top scores of the entire group, the Roborock S5 is by far the most competent at navigating its way through confined spaces and in cluttered homes. This robot never really needed became stuck to the point of needing assistance in our tests. It also has an impressive set of remote control and smart connect abilities.

The Roborock S5 cleans methodically with the help of its laser navigation sensor. To make sure it doesn't miss any spots, it tackles the perimeter of the room first and then follows a zigzag route through the area. The sensor also helps bring the S5 quickly and easily back to the charging dock. The token from “mi home app” and the one from “roborock app” is not the same. Combined with precision laser mapping, advanced navigation, and intense vacuum suction, it makes spotless floors easier than ever. The iRobot Roomba Combo J7 Plus is our top-tested robot vacuum on hardwood floors, picking up an average of 98% of small debris and a perfect 100% of sand in our controlled cleaning tests. While they're washable, additional clothes are sold in packs of two for $16.99. Robot vacuums are great for getting the dirty work done for you (admit it, you never cleaned under the couch before you got one, right?). Both the iRobot Roomba Combo J7 Plus and the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra offer app controls for both Android and iOS devices. Those apps matter because neither cleaner comes with a physical remote, so you'll need to use the apps in order to schedule cleaning runs and manage your robot's map of your home. These long exposure shots use glow sticks to track the path of each robot vacuum as it cleans.
So here are the two Google Assistant commands that you can give for your Roborock S7. When the S5 needs manual assistance , it uses voice announcements. While it's a nice change of pace from the unhelpful beeps on other robot vacuums, I relied more on app notifications, especially when the S5 was in another room.
The Roborock delivered one of the best performances of the entire group, tying with the Neato Botvac Connected and the Neato Botvac D7. If you care more about having a robot that you can just set and forget, then the Roborock is for you. If you usually have heavier messes or a much more open layout, then it might be worth considering one of the Neato models.
With the Roomba, you can tell it to vacuum or you can tell it to vacuum and mop, but you can't tell it just to mop. That's an odd thing to omit, and means that mopping runs are going to be slightly noisier than they might need to be. The good news is that each cleaner does a great job of mapping your home and then letting you identify different rooms, areas and zones in the app. Once you've done that, you can tell the cleaner where, specifically, you want it to clean, and you can designate no-go-zones for it to avoid, as well. So, if you're telling the Roborock to clean your tiled kitchen, you can tell it to be sure and mop.
Keeps the mop, but loses the self-emptying bins and tanks. I didn't break out the glow sticks in my own home, but I kept an eye on each cleaner as it moved throughout my place. Sure enough, when the Roborock finished mopping my kitchen and navigated to the low-pile area rug in my living room, I felt some dampness on the fabric afterwards. It was never wet enough to cause a mess or leave anything soaked, but still, spreading even a small amount of dirty mopping water over your carpets seems less than ideal. Let's start by zooming out and taking a look at how these robots are put together and what that means for the day-to-day experience of using one to keep your floors clean. Turns out, there are some key design differences that separate them.
Performance dropped considerably in our next challenge, where we tasked the Roborock to clean a section of hardwood laminate floor. It lacked the cleaning power to extract any flour that had fallen between the boards as well. However, the Roborock also affords you the opportunity to initiate the spot clean through its mobile app. You can select up to 5 zones in the cleaning map of your home and the number of passes, ranging from 1-3, you would like the robot to complete and can send it on its way remotely. The Roborock again led the group in this metric, earning an 8 out of 10 for its superb showing.
However, I would say that only if the vacuum + mop combo is what you’re looking for. If you just need a vacuum, an older Roborock model might be a better use of your funds. As far as the auto-empty dock goes, I think $299 puts its price beyond its utility for most folks. A discounted bundle is what I’d want to see to make the setup a bit more attractive, and luckily that currently exists.
If you prefer voice alerts, I recommend turning the volume all the way up so that it's easy to hear regardless of where the vacuum is. From what I can tell the difference between the apps is the Roborock app just controls the vacuum/s, but the Mi Home app lets you control vacuums and other Xiaomi smart home products. The benefit is to Mi Home if you have more than a vacuum and to the Roborock app if you just have a vacuum, because, from my perspective, its cleaner and easier to control the vacuum itself.
For most people, that will be just one robot vacuum, but there are two on my account as you can see here. The top is home to a Spot Clean button, a Recharge button, and a Power button with a circular indicator light that glows white when there's more than 20 percent battery life, and red when there's less. Under the lid you'll find a removable dustbin, a Wi-Fi indicator light, a system reset button, and a cleaning tool for the main brush. The front has a bumper and a wall sensor, and the back has an air vent and a speaker for voice alerts. Flip over the S5 to find the main brush, side brush, swivel wheel, cliff sensor, and charging contacts.
Feel free to create and share posts you find helpful or entertaining. Unfortunately, drawing lines to separate rooms can be frustrating, as the app is very picky about where you can draw the lines and it can feel like trial and error trying to get it to work. Also, if the robot sees through a window or a glass door it will add what it sees to the map even if it's inaccessible or outdoors and there's no way to remove these regions. Use up to 10 No-Go Zones and 10 Invisible Walls to avoid thick carpets, keep robots away from delicate art, and more—all without a single hardware add-on.
